Thomas W. Deiters Engineering provides professional aerospace structural engineering support for projects of any size, including maintenance and modification issues.

We serve individual aircraft owners, small to mid-sized operators, and repair stations. We consult for clients without in-house engineering staff and can also work alongside clients' existing personnel. Our services cover maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) as well as design of airframe structures.

Our services draw on:

  • Commercial aviation expertise: FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER) credentials in Structures, and compliance with 14 CFR regulations. See Mr. Deiters’ current designation here.

  • Military aviation experience gained through extensive work with defense manufacturers.

  • Professional Engineer state licensure.

  • Flying expertise: our principal engineer Thomas W. Deiters is a rated pilot with aerobatics skills.

Forty-four years ago, we developed and documented the Durability and Damage Tolerance Assessment Methodology and Basic Data for the U.S. Air Force; this work is now considered foundational to Fracture Analysis and Damage Tolerance evaluation.

We also executed the Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for Phoenix Air Group's Aeromedical Biological Containment System (ABCS). Design began in 2008 at the request of the CDC, with our firm consulting on structural development, design, and substantiation. The ABCS was first used to contain the Ebola virus during the 2014 - 2015 outbreak. Aircraft equipped with this system are now known as High Consequence Infectious Disease (HCID) Transport Aircraft - the most logical choice for Personal Protection Equipment Isolation during the COVID-19 outbreak (late 2019 - May 2023), and possibly still the only protection of its kind available today.

In 2017, DER Thomas W. Deiters was granted delegation of Alternative Methods of Compliance (AMOC) repair authority for AD 2006-25-02, paragraphs (a) and (c), by the FAA Atlanta ACO Branch (Correspondence 7A0-17-l80L, dated November 2, 2017). Granting this authority to a consultant DER is rare and required a special deviation from standard orders.

Thomas W. Deiters Engineering is an S corporation headquartered in Cartersville, Georgia, near Atlanta. Founder and CEO Thomas W. Deiters is an experienced, degreed professional engineer with a broad background in aerospace.
